HERO HONDA CO-SPONSORS
THE HISTORIC INDIA- PAKISTAN CRICKET SERIES

New Delhi , February 10, 2004: "Sports has the power to unite", said Nelson Mandela. And that famous line once again stands the test of time, as we are on the threshold of a historic moment that brings together India and Pakistan , when Indian cricket team visits Pakistan next month after a gap of almost decade and half to play three test matches and five one-dayers.

Hero Honda, the World No. 1 Two-Wheeler company is proud to be a part of this historic occasion as a co-sponsor of the India-Pakistan cricket series.

What started out as a path breaking initiative by our Honourable Prime Minister Shri Atal Behari Vajpayee with the Samjhauta Express a couple of years ago, has snowballed into a tour, promising greater friendship between the two countries than ever before.

While talking of Hero Honda's association with the upcoming series, Mr. Brijmohan Lall, Chairman, Hero Honda Motors, said, "It has always been our endeavour to create an environment that fosters growth and peace. There is no better way to create that than by extending a hand of peace and friendship. We, the Hero Honda family, are proud to be a part of this moment, which transcends beyond cricket."

The company's bond with sports goes back more than a decade and Mr. Brijmohan Lall's bond with Pakistan goes back even further- to the days even before Pakistan was created. He was born in Lyallpur , Pakistan , and came to India after partition. And more than half a century later, he is today regarded as one of India 's leading entrepreneur and most admired industrialists. And this phenomenal success has been fuelled by the vision to build long lasting relationships with everyone.

Mr. Pawan Munjal, Managing Director and CEO of Hero Honda Motors, said, "Our mission statement is to create world-class products and services in the form of best two-wheelers in the world. While doing so, we also maintain the highest standards of ethics and societal responsibilities."

"We have now chosen to back the upcoming Indian Pakistan series as a vehicle to bring peace and prosperity to the sub-continent."

Mr. Munjal further said, "The passion that cricket generates in people on either side of the Wagah Border is unmatched anywhere in the world. Considering cricket is almost a religion for people in either country, interest level in this series for people across the world will be one of the highest ever in the history of sports. This will hopefully foster a feeling for goodwill amongst all."

Hero Honda's association with cricket began with the sponsorship of the India-Sri Lanka Test series in 1993. Today, Hero Honda is a serious patron of not just Indian but also world cricket. It is one the global partners of ICC cricket events till the World Cup for cricket 2007.
